THE CORE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW AGE ENTREPRENEUR

The new age, the information age, represents a period where business is done at a faster pace and at a lighter weight. The personal computer weighs more than ten times less than it used to in the nineties. A storage facility worth ten terabytes can be compressed into the size of a bar soap. It’s scary, fulfilling, and exhilarating at the same time.
New age entrepreneurs are characterized by some core features. These features are:
Efficiency: This is an age where entrepreneurs walk the talk. Entrepreneurs are becoming masters of various crafts. This is seen in some of the most influential companies of our time. Companies like Google, Face Book, Twitter, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, are owned by highly skilled individuals who are not only talented but are efficient enough to deliver on the promises they make to the public. The world has become a sphere of innovation upon innovation and people do not ever tire of buying innovations that will essentially satisfy a want.
Speed: If you can deliver quality in three days, watch out! There may be an eighteen-year old who is capable of delivering a higher quality in two days. When Bill Gate spoke about, “business at the speed of light”, he wasn’t kidding. The global interface that connects entrepreneurs and clients in various continents require speedy delivery of results. Trends are set and broken every single day; client perspective can change in a moment; information is being pressed into our conscious and sub-conscious every second; therefore, an entrepreneur must stay atop the chain of information and creativity if he ever wants to remain relevant for a long time.
Global Connectivity: This has become one of the most important features of the lean entrepreneur. A young girl from an unknown village can reach to millions of people on You Tube through a piece of camera. PayPal, Payoneer, Instamojo, and other payment gateways exist for people to deal business transactions safely. Global connectivity is the factor that brings humans from different parts of the world together in a common market. Freelancing is an example of global connectivity. Freelance companies like Fiverr.com boast of millions of freelancers on their platforms. Gigs are completed every second on these platforms. That means that there is a constant transaction between people all around the world. It means that you can be in the United States and sell your services to the Chinese, receive prompt and secure payments, without ever having to go to China.
Creativity: The new age entrepreneur is creative. He thinks of ways to successfully compete against the mainstream companies and carve a market for himself. The dot.com bubble saw a lot of dot.com entrepreneurs get easy funding even when they had not make a single profit; however, these days, entrepreneurs will successfully build successful companies, without the help of some deep funding, yet find a way to compete and evolve against the large companies that exist within their fields. Creativity is the breath of the new age.
