Before I sold my company I would always find myself coaching my marketing team to think outside the box.
We had perfected our offer already, and we had more customers then we could handle. The problem in most businesses is they either don’t have enough leads or they can’t handle the amount of leads they have.
Personally I’d rather have the quality problem of too much business. In order to generate the massive amounts of leads that our business would receive on a daily basis we needed a strategy.
As marketing experts we always have to be on our toes thinking of new ways to offer “bait” to our customers in order for them to discover, we have the world’s greatest solutions to their companies challenges. Does your company struggle with lead generation? If so keep in mind that although the bait is important there are other things that are more critical for a good fishing trip.
For the next few minutes, imagine yourself as a fisherman about to go fishing. What is the most important thing you must have in order to fish… Bait? A Boat? A Cooler? Drinks? The truth is while all of these things are important you can’t actually “fish” without “fish”.
Stay with me, before you jump overboard let me explain. You could have all the newest gear, the latest technology, the best sales team in the world, with all the best “bait” but if you are fishing in a puddle then you’ll have a hard time pulling out that trophy fish if you find any fish at all. I challenge you to think of where the best fishing holes are for your business. While it’s always fun to go out and spend a day on the water, remember we are talking about your business, and this business puts food on the table of all of your team members!
At your next team meeting challenge your team to think outside the box. Ask them
“What is the most important thing you must have if you are going fishing?”
